Crash caused by wrong-way driver claims 1 life

People who decide to drink and drive unnecessarily risk the lives of others on the road. Nowhere is this more apparent than in a recent car accident in Ventura. Sadly, the accident claimed the life of an innocent motorist, and the alleged at-fault driver is facing various criminal charges.

Accident details

The accident occurred early in the morning of Saturday, Dec. 18, around 3 a.m. The crash happened on Highway 101 after an allegedly intoxicated driver drove the wrong way on the freeway. Authorities had to close that stretch of road for hours as they cleaned up the mess and investigated the accident.

The victim was described as an 18-year-old man from Ojai. His identity was not released pending notification of next-of-kin. Reportedly, he also had a passenger in the car with him, another 18-year-old man, who suffered moderate injuries in the crash and was transported to a local hospital. This accident also involved another driver who hit the victim’s car, an 18-year-old man, and he also had a 19-year-old passenger with him who suffered minor injuries. The alleged at-fault driver suffered major injuries and was transported to a local medical center.

Legal recourse

The surviving family members of the young man who was killed in the crash may pursue a wrongful death claim against the alleged at-fault driver to pursue recovery of monetary damages. Likewise, those injured in the crash can file their own personal injury claims against the individual and any separate owner of the vehicle he was driving. Information regarding his arrest for DUI may be admissible as evidence in related civil claims, and the victims will want to work with an experienced personal injury attorney to increase their chances for a successful outcome.
