Fiery fatal crash involving Tesla

People in California who choose to drink and drive endanger themselves, their passengers and everyone else on the road. All too often, drunk drivers cause serious accidents that lead to severe and even fatal injuries. Such seems to be the case in a recent tragedy involving a Tesla that happened in Garden Grove.

Accident details

Around 1 a.m. on the morning of Nov. 11, officers with the Garden Grove Police Department responded to an accident at the intersection of Garden Grove Boulevard and Magnolia Street. There, they found a Tesla that was engulfed in flames and two other vehicles that were not on fire, a Nissan and Lexus. Officers and good Samaritans helped pull the Tesla driver out of the burning sedan, and he was transported to the hospital, where his condition is listed as critical but stable.

Unfortunately, his passenger died at the scene. The driver of the Lexus suffered critical injuries, and the report did not mention whether the driver of the Nissan sustained injuries. Incidentally, he was able to provide a statement mentioned in the report regarding his airbag deploying in the crash, so one can assume he suffered no injuries, or they were minor. Authorities believe the Tesla driver was intoxicated and speeding, but they are still investigating how the crash occurred.

Obtaining compensation

Even without formal charges against the Tesla driver for DUI and reckless driving, the surviving family of his deceased passenger may file a wrongful death claim against him as well as anyone else with an ownership interest in his vehicle. Likewise, any injured parties may pursue compensation for their associated expenses and losses. To increase their chances of obtaining successful outcomes, affected parties will need to work with an experienced personal injury attorney in California.
