3 dead, 2 injured in California crash

Three individuals were killed and two more were injured in a motor vehicle wreck. The California accident involved three cars and occurred on Highway 65. It took place on a recent Sunday night.

Events leading up to the crash

The Placer County crash took place a little before 9 p.m. Authorities said a car was headed south on the highway while two sport utility vehicles were going north. The car reportedly entered the opposite lanes and collided with the two SUVs.

Police said the driver of the car, a 53-year-old woman, died in the crash. One SUV driver and a front seat passenger in the same vehicle suffered severe injuries. They were transported to a medical center, but neither one survived. Meanwhile, a third person in the same SUV was transported to a medical center in critical condition, while the driver of the second SUV also suffered injuries, although they were considered moderate. Authorities continue to investigate the tragedy.

Legal recourse available following the accident

Police may discover through their investigation that the accident occurred due to the negligence of the woman driving the car, such as driving while distracted. In this situation, the surviving family members of the deceased SUV driver and passenger who died in the crash may choose to file wrongful death claims against the estate of the woman considered at fault; anyone else with an ownership interest in the car she was driving may also be named as a defendant. The two injured individuals may also file personal injury claims, seeking the reimbursement of monetary damages sustained due to the wreck. Successfully managed claims typically lead to damage awards to cover losses tied to the crash, including hospital expenses and burial costs.
