California crash results in 1 death, 2 injuries

A man was killed in a California car crash in El Dorado County. Another man was seriously injured in the two-vehicle accident. It occurred on a Thursday afternoon.

Events leading to the crash

The recent accident took place at about 3:20 p.m. According to authorities, a 52-year-old man was driving a Ford Expedition on Highway 50. It suddenly entered the opposite lanes and hit a Kia Sportage minivan. It is not yet clear why the vehicle ended up in oncoming traffic.

An 83-year-old man was driving a car in the correct lane and was killed in the resulting collision. A passenger in that vehicle, a 52-year-old man, suffered major injuries in the wreck. The driver of the first car escaped with minor injuries. Police continue to investigate the cause of the collision but said they did not believe that driving under the influence was involved. No arrests were made in the immediate aftermath of the motor vehicle accident, and apparently all motorists were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

How an attorney can help

The surviving family members of the driver who lost his life in the California accident may choose to file a wrongful death claim against the driver of the car that crossed into oncoming traffic. Likewise, the injured passenger may decide to file a personal injury claim, seeking the reimbursement of monetary damages sustained in the crash. A successfully presented claim in civil court could result in a substantial monetary award to cover documented losses stemming from the car accident, such as medical bills and funeral costs.
