2 dead, 4 injured in crash attributed to drunk driver

A woman and her young daughter were killed in a recent motor vehicle crash in California. Four other people were injured in the Sunday afternoon crash. A man was arrested for drunk driving in connection with the collision.

Accident details

The motor vehicle crash happened at around 3:14 p.m. According to police, a 23-year-old man driving a pickup truck along Old Highway 395 reportedly veered off the roadway. He crashed through a fence, flipped his truck on Interstate 15 and collided with a car head-on. A woman and her 4-year-old daughter were in the car and died in the wreck.

Apparently, the pickup truck then crashed into a second car, causing injuries to three other people. The pickup driver also suffered injuries and was taken to a medical center. Authorities believe that he was intoxicated at the time of the crash, so he now faces several charges, including vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI.

Legal support

The surviving loved ones of the woman and infant who died in the California accident may choose to file wrongful death claims against the pickup truck driver, seeking the reimbursement of monetary damages sustained in the collision. Likewise, the three injured parties may opt to file personal injury claims. If the pickup truck driver is ultimately convicted of the criminal charges, proof of the conviction may be presented in civil court with the goal of establishing his liability for the crash. If the plaintiffs succeed in civil court, they may be awarded damages to cover accident-related losses, such as hospital bills and funeral costs.
