Single-car crash claims 2 lives, injures 2 others

When traveling at highway speeds on California freeways, it only takes a moment of inattention to lead to a very serious crash. Even if the driver is not exceeding the posted speed limit, the fact that a vehicle is allowed to travel at relatively high speeds can spell disaster should the driver lose control and drift onto the shoulder or median of the road. Such seems to be the case in a recent car accident near Sacramento that killed two and seriously injured two others.

Accident details

At an unspecified time just after midnight on Sept. 20, a car was heading north on I-5. The vehicle was reportedly traveling at 70 mph when it drifted onto the shoulder and ran over rumble strips in the pavement. The driver overcorrected to get the car back onto the highway, which led to the car losing control. The vehicle slid on the wet road and then went into the grass, where it overturned several times.

During the roll, three of the vehicle’s occupants were ejected. One victim was declared dead at the scene, and the other two were transported to a local hospital, where the driver of the car passed away. A fourth individual was also injured in the crash. It appears no one was wearing a seat belt, but authorities do not suspect alcohol or drug impairment.

Seeking compensation

The report did not offer an idea as to why the driver drifted off the road in the first place; however, those who were injured or lost loved ones in this crash may have options for obtaining compensation. Since the driver was one of the people killed, his or her estate can be named in any civil claims that arise from victims and their families. Affected parties will want to work closely with an experienced personal injury attorney in California to understand their options and increase their chances of achieving a favorable outcome.

Injuries in a motor vehicle accident that was not your fault necessitate legal representation. Advocacy from a skilled and experienced personal injury can be the first step in protecting your rights while maximizing the compensation you deserve.
